I mean, just look at how the gods are portrayed in popular media! The same with the gods we are told to respect, or just be respectful of them. That being said, I think there is a very important difference between the two, and I think the mythological heroes of the Norse and Germanic peoples were heroes of virtue. The heroes of the Norse and Germanic tribes would be more than honorable in their own right, and would have a lot of respect for them.
